Goodwin Marine Services (GMS) provides shoreside and offshore marine services to the Massachusetts Bay area and beyond. Our services include vessel support, survey and construction, mooring deployment, and support for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remotely operated vehicles (ROV).
Launched in 2002, GMS began with a solitary boat in its arsenal. Founder and owner, Captain Josh Goodwin ran operations with a single but solid 42-foot Wesmac fishing vessel known as FV Shanna Rose.
After being upgraded with deck winches, a hydraulic A-frame, and ample laboratory space, it was used by different clients as a research vessel for oceanographic research, and data collection.
The Growth of Goodwin Marine Services
The following years saw the significant growth of Goodwin Marine Services and the addition of three research vessels:
- RV Jamie Hanna is a custom-built 55-foot vessel with a Wesmac hull. Due to the extraordinary care and attention to detail we exerted in its design, many clients appreciate its versatility, work environment, and reliability.
RV Jamie Hanna joined the GMS fleet in 2012. Its features include ample space on deck, lab space, a retractable sonar pole, a hydraulic A-frame with a 5,000-pound capacity, and deck winches.
- RV James K Goodwin is a 110-foot offshore supply vessel that GMS acquired in 2017. We purchased it after noticing the demand for bigger vessels that could be used for a wider range of research. RV James K Goodwin is double the size of RV Jamie Hanna at 110 feet, features a Graham hull, and is capable of extended offshore assignments.
- RV Rachel K Goodwin has the same hull and is similar to the RV James K Goodwin. It is 110 feet in length, offers good-sized deck space and sleeping quarters. It can easily manage 20-foot vibracores with its detachable custom-made A-frame that has a 27-foot vertical clearance.
Notable Clients
Goodwin Marine Services has collaborated with GDMS Bluefin Robotics and CR Environmental to carry out a plethora of offshore research tasks for multinational companies like energy consulting company APTIM and Coastal Vision to name a few. GMS has also assisted the US Geological Survey and the US Navy in several areas of research and development.
Goodwin’s Boatyard Services
In addition to leasing out our marine research vessels and other offshore services, we also provide boatyard services.
- Boat Engine Repair. Goodwin Marine Services offers repair services for inboard, outboard, I/O, and diesel engines.
- Boat Hauling Service. We offer a boat hauling and transportation service. We can pick up and move powerboats and sailboats up to 40 feet wide.
- Short-Term and Seasonal Boat Storage Service. We have a spacious boatyard that is open year-round. You can store your boats with us for an entire season or on a short-term basis.
